2.1. General
2.1.1. Knowledge Sharing
Cosmos Square is a knowledge sharing virtual environment, the next generation learning,
research, and development environment, the foundation for the new school, college,
university, lab, and R&D center.
2.1.2. Virtual World
Designed for grid-based 3D interactive virtual worlds including SecondLife/OpenSim,
Cosmos Square is a metaphor-based knowledge sharing environment.
The Cosmos Square metaphor provides a new form of encyclopedic repository,
where knowledge is stored, documented, represented, illustrated
with animated 3D models to be interactively experimented by users,
as well as referenced through traditional menus, links, tables of content,
and indexes, but where also knowledge is geo-mapped, -referenced,
and logically navigated in 3D space.
2.1.3. Ontology and Topic Map
Cosmos Square is an integrating interactive ontology and 3D navigational topic map, for any or all knowledge.
The Cosmos Square metaphor supports the virtual reality representation and interactive experimentation
of even the most abstract concepts or knowledge aspects.
2.1.4. Definitions
For reference, clarity, and consistency, this document uses the term "knowledge resource"
or often, more simply, "resource" to described any knowledge structure, entity, concept, or aspect.
In fact, a knowledge resource, or "resource" is any piece of knowledge that can be identified and classified,
simple or compound, including all beings, things, concepts, capabilities, behaviors, and processes.
2.1.5. Objective
The current project objective is to complete the first stage of an implementation phase,
the development and integration of an adequate infrastructure platform,
as well as application, operation, and service support, including core models,
basic knowledge resource models and AI-Bots, as well as guidance and user support and hosting services,
ensuring that, content mostly, and platform also, can be extended and evolved for years and generations to come.
2.1.6. Status
The Cosmos Square metaphor is fully articulated,
the foundational models and primary knowledge resources have been specified,
structured, and prototyped, now requiring implementation on the designated platforms.
